Duties
Help

You will serve as a Painter and be responsible for the preparation, by mechanical and chemical process, and the protective and cosmetic coating of buoys, vessels, structures, and miscellaneous objects.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

Preparing metal surfaces for coating by dry and wet abrasive blasting, by grinding with abrasive disks and wheels, and by chemical stripping methods.
Preparing metal surfaces by pickling or through controlled oxidation; prepares fiber reinforced plastic surfaces by filling, shaping, and abrasive sanding; prepares masonry surfaces by mechanical and abrasive blasting methods.
Developing coatings of proper color, adjusting hue, intensity and tone to match existing color schemes.
Developing coatings of proper texture, consistency, and thickness; diagnoses coating problems, and adjusts application or mixture to obtain desired results adjusting and operating air and airless spray apparatuses.

Occasional Temporary Additions Duty (TAD) may be required
Qualifications

Specialized experience/Screen-out: To qualify for the Painter (Blaster), WG-4102-9, applicants must meet the following screen-out job element to be considered for this position:

Job Element #1: Ability To Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element) to be considered eligible for the position.
Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. To meet the screen-out examples of the duties includes:
