Job description

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to lead a thriving organization into its next chapter.

Working closely with the Board and staff, the Executive Director will provide strategic leadership while strengthening the organization’s culture, operations, partnerships, and long-term sustainability. The next Executive Director will help Tribe 12 continue asking important questions about where it can have the greatest impact and how it can best serve Jewish adults in their 20s and 30s.

We’re looking for a leader who can balance vision with execution, someone who enjoys building healthy teams, developing people, creating organizational clarity, and earning the trust of staff, board members, funders, and community partners.

This role is especially well suited for someone ready to step into their first Executive Director position after serving in a senior leadership role at a Hillel, Federation, JCC, or other nonprofit organization.

What You’ll Do

The Executive Director provides overall leadership for Tribe 12 by:

Leading implementation of the organization’s strategic plan.
Supervising and developing an experienced staff team of eight full-time and part-time employees, including three direct reports.
Building a strong organizational culture rooted in trust, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Partnering closely with the Board of Directors to strengthen governance and advance strategic priorities.
Overseeing organizational finances, budgeting, and long-term sustainability in partnership with the Treasurer and Finance Committee.
Serving as a public ambassador for Tribe 12 throughout Philadelphia’s Jewish and nonprofit communities.
Partnering with the Senior Director for Strategy and Development to cultivate major donors and advance fundraising efforts.
Ensure the success of fundraising events including the annual Hanukkah Fundraiser and the Jewish Philly Under 40 Awards.
Building strong relationships with funders, community organizations, volunteers, and stakeholders.
Ensuring programs, operations, and organizational systems remain aligned with Tribe 12’s mission and values.

Who You Are

You may not have been an Executive Director before, but you’ve led teams, managed complexity, partnered with senior leadership or boards, and you’re ready for the opportunity to lead an organization.

Successful candidates will bring many of the following:

Significant leadership experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
Outstanding supervision, coaching, and team development skills.
Strong strategic thinking and organizational management abilities.
Experience managing budgets, projects, and organizational operations.
Comfort building relationships with boards, volunteers, funders, and community partners.
Excellent communication skills, emotional intelligence, and sound judgment.
Knowledge of contemporary Jewish life and enthusiasm for helping young adults build meaningful Jewish community.
A bachelor’s degree.
