Director of Nursing

Duties & Responsibilities:

Provides leadership and oversight to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all patients through the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered nursing care.
Directs the daily operations of the nursing department across assigned facilities, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, applicable federal and state regulations, licensing requirements, and accreditation standards.
Collaborates with the Director of Medical Services, physicians, therapists, clinical leadership, and interdisciplinary treatment teams to coordinate comprehensive patient care and promote positive clinical outcomes.
Participates in daily treatment team meetings, case consultations, and interdisciplinary discussions to ensure continuity of care and effective communication among all departments.
Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, mentors, and evaluates nursing personnel, fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous development.
Develops and manages nursing staff schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels on all shifts while maintaining operational efficiency and quality patient care.
Delegates nursing assignments appropriately and oversees the implementation of daily patient care activities.
Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates nursing quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives to promote excellence in patient care and regulatory compliance.
Develops, interprets, implements, and reviews nursing policies, procedures, and clinical protocols to ensure evidence-based practice and operational consistency.
Provides orientation, ongoing education, competency assessments, and professional development opportunities for nursing staff and other departments as appropriate.
Develops, manages, and monitors departmental budgets, including staffing, supplies, and equipment, while identifying opportunities for cost-effective resource utilization.
Monitors the quality, safety, legality, and ethical delivery of nursing care through regular audits, observations, and performance evaluations.
Promotes a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff by ensuring compliance with infection prevention, safety standards, emergency preparedness, and risk management practices.
Participates in organizational risk management and performance improvement activities by reviewing, investigating, and resolving incident reports, patient grievances, compliance concerns, and quality improvement initiatives.
Exercises independent judgment in making operational decisions affecting nursing services and departmental performance.
Ensures patients receive appropriate education regarding medical conditions, medications, treatment plans, discharge planning, and health maintenance.
Evaluates departmental needs for medical supplies, equipment, and other resources to support safe and effective patient care.
Establishes departmental goals, objectives, and performance metrics that align with the organization’s strategic mission and clinical priorities.
Collaborates with hospitals, physicians, pharmacies, laboratories, community agencies, and other external partners to coordinate patient care and support services.
Ensures all suspected or alleged incidents of abuse, neglect, or exploitation are reported promptly in accordance with state laws, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
Maintains accurate, complete, and timely clinical documentation and departmental records in accordance with legal, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
Partners with administrative, clinical, and program leadership to coordinate patient scheduling and clinical services while minimizing conflicts and ensuring compliance with treatment standards.
Participates in the organization’s on-call rotation and responds to clinical and operational issues requiring nursing leadership.
Maintains strict patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
Supports and upholds all Hanley policies, procedures, professional standards, and ethical principles while serving as a role model for excellence in nursing leadership.
Performs other duties as assigned to support organizational operations and patient care.

Education/Experience/Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Master’s preferred.
Maintain current Nursing license from the Board of Nursing.
Minimum ten (10) years post licensure experience.
Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory/managerial experience required.
If in recovery, one (1) year of continuous sobriety is required.
