Job description

You will:

Fraud & AML Investigation

Investigate and take action on suspicious fraud and potential AML activity across the entire Moov payment network.
Monitor transaction activity and alert queues for indicators of fraudulent behavior or money laundering.
Author detailed investigative reports on suspicious activity and escalate cases to management or regulatory bodies as necessary.
Maintain accurate case records and documentation throughout the investigation lifecycle.

KYC & KYB Onboarding Due Diligence

Manage daily KYC (Know Your Customer) and KYB (Know Your Business) onboarding activity queues.
Perform enhanced due diligence on merchants enrolling to use the Moov payment processing platform, including:
Applicable professional licensing verification
Secretary of State validation
Financial statement review
Lexis Nexis business credit report analysis
Conduct in-depth onboarding investigations specific to Card and Banking payment platforms, including:
Assessing merchant risk profiles for card-present and card-not-present (CNP) environments
Reviewing chargeback history, processing volume patterns, and card network compliance indicators
Evaluating ACH, RTP, and banking product suitability against merchant business type and risk tier
Identifying red flags associated with high-risk MCC codes, prohibited business categories, and card brand rules
Verifying banking relationships and account ownership to prevent account takeover and synthetic identity fraud at onboarding
Ensure all onboarding activity aligns with BSA regulations, card network rules (Visa, Mastercard), and Moov’s internal compliance standards.

Underwriting Evaluations

Perform merchant underwriting evaluations as part of the onboarding and ongoing review process, assessing overall risk acceptability for card and banking payment products.
Analyze and interpret key underwriting inputs including:
Business financial statements and processing volume history
Personal and business credit reports (e.g., Lexis Nexis, Experian, Equifax)
Chargeback ratios and dispute history relative to card network thresholds
Industry and MCC risk classification
Length of time in business, ownership structure, and beneficial ownership verification
Assign appropriate risk tiers and recommend approval, conditional approval, or declination based on underwriting findings.
Document underwriting decisions with clear rationale and maintain audit-ready records in accordance with internal policy and regulatory expectations.
Partner with compliance and risk leadership to refine underwriting criteria and adapt to evolving fraud patterns and regulatory guidance.

Partner & Merchant Validation

Work closely with Moov Support to validate new partners joining the Moov network.
Confirm that partner merchants adhere to their respective approved business models and BSA obligations.
Identify and escalate anomalies in merchant behavior or profile information.

Process & Procedure Development

Assist management with the creation, documentation, and ongoing refinement of FRAML processes and procedures.
Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement within the compliance function.

You have:

Fraud Investigations - 3–5 years of experience in fraud investigations
AML Monitoring - 3–5 years of experience in AML monitoring
Merchant Acquiring / Onboarding - 3+ years of experience in merchant acquiring and/or merchant onboarding
Card Payment Platforms - Experience conducting onboarding investigations within card payment environments, including familiarity with card network rules (Visa, Mastercard), MCC codes, CNP risk, and chargeback analysis
Banking Payment Platforms - Experience with banking product onboarding investigations including ACH, RTP, and banking account verification; knowledge of synthetic identity fraud and account takeover indicators
Merchant Underwriting - Experience conducting merchant underwriting evaluations, including financial statement analysis, credit report review, chargeback ratio assessment, MCC risk classification, and risk tier assignment for card and banking payment products
Bank & Card Issuer Relations - Demonstrated experience working directly with banks and card issuers, including correspondent banking relationships, issuer dispute escalations, and regulatory inquiry responses
CFE Certification - Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) — preferred but not required

Skills & Competencies:

Communication & Writing

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear investigative reports and correspondence.
Ability to communicate complex regulatory or investigative findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience working directly with banks and card issuers, including:
Drafting and responding to formal inquiries, dispute escalations, and information requests from issuing banks
Liaising with card network representatives (Visa, Mastercard) on compliance, risk, and fraud-related matters
Coordinating with correspondent banking partners on transaction monitoring alerts and SAR-related communications
Maintaining professional relationships with bank compliance and fraud operations contacts to support timely investigations

Technology & Platforms

Proficiency with the Google Workspace platform (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail, etc.).
Hands-on experience with Fraud and AML monitoring and investigation operations systems.
Familiarity with Card and Banking payment platform environments, including tools used for:
Card network dispute and chargeback management systems
ACH origination and return code analysis platforms
Banking account verification and identity resolution tools (e.g., Plaid, Socure, Alloy, or similar)

Underwriting & Risk Assessment

Ability to conduct thorough merchant underwriting evaluations, weighing financial, operational, and reputational risk factors to arrive at well-supported approval decisions.
Skilled at interpreting credit bureau data, financial statements, and processing history in the context of payment risk.
Comfortable assigning and documenting risk tiers, writing declination rationale, and maintaining underwriting records that satisfy audit and regulatory review standards.

AI & Emerging Investigation Tools

Experience using AI agent platforms and AI-powered investigation or compliance tools.
Ability to leverage AI agents for case triage, pattern detection, anomaly identification, and workflow automation.
Comfort working alongside emerging technology to enhance investigative throughput and accuracy.

Regulatory Knowledge

Working knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and guidance including:
Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
FFIEC examination guidelines
Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)
Other applicable federal and state financial regulations
