Job description
Role Summary
The Engagement Manager Level 1 is the day-to-day owner of a Decimal Health engagement, accountable for the work, the team, and the client relationship from kickoff through close.
This role sits at the point where strategy becomes delivery. Engagement Managers define the workplan, adapt the approach as the problem sharpens and new evidence emerges, serve as the primary client contact, and lead full project teams across levels while holding the standard for quality and pace.
The role carries real ownership. Engagement Managers are accountable for scope, timeline, budget, and outcomes, and are expected to operate as fully autonomous engagement leaders.
Key Responsibilities
Engagement Leadership and Delivery
Own end-to-end delivery of assigned engagements, including scope, workplan, timeline, budget, and final client-ready outputs.
Define the workplan at kickoff and adapt the approach dynamically as evidence emerges and client priorities shift.
Structure the problem, direct the analysis across workstreams, and integrate findings into a clear and defensible recommendation.
Make independent engagement decisions on sequencing, resourcing, and the tradeoffs between speed, rigor, and risk.
Own engagement outcomes and risk mitigation, surfacing issues early and resolving them before they reach the client.
Client Relationships and Growth
Serve as the primary client lead and trusted day-to-day advisor to director and executive level stakeholders.
Run working sessions and steering committee meetings that move decisions forward rather than report status.
Hold accountability for identifying and advancing follow-on work, translating what the team learns during delivery into logical next engagements.
Contribute to proposal development, scoping, and pricing for extensions and new opportunities.
Engagement Economics
Hold accountability for engagement margin, utilization, and delivery efficiency.
Manage scope actively, addressing changes with the client directly and adjusting the plan rather than absorbing the work.
Forecast staffing needs and flag resourcing or margin risk early enough for the firm to act on it.
Team Leadership and Development
Lead full engagement teams across analyst, associate, and consultant levels, with responsibility for both performance and morale.
Set clear expectations, provide specific and timely feedback, and create the conditions for people to do their best work.
Coach team members deliberately on structured thinking, client communication, and professional judgment.
Firm Building and Culture
Develop delivery standards, templates, and reusable IP that raise the quality baseline across the firm.
Build team capability through knowledge sharing, onboarding, and contributions to internal training.
Represent Decimal Health with clients and partners in a way that reflects its values and standards.
Experience and Qualifications
5 to 7 years of experience in strategy consulting, healthcare, life sciences, digital health, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated success owning delivery of complex projects end to end, including scope, budget, team, and client relationship.
Working knowledge of healthcare systems, innovation, and commercialization dynamics.
Proven ability to lead teams and develop junior talent.
Strong structured problem solving, executive communication, and comfort operating under ambiguity.
Advanced degree preferred but not required.
