The Opportunity

Maintain responsibility for implementing and maintaining one or more complex databases. Analyze the design, development, and delivery or implementation of data solutions, including architecture design, prototyping of concepts to proof of concept, analysis of the development of standards, design, and test plans, code, module design development and testing, data solution debugging, design and implementation of a solution that follows efficient design techniques, and development that meets and exceeds the intent of the design of the data solution. Assist with the planning and engineering of the organization's databases. Monitor performance, scalability, and security and evaluate existing database design to determine the necessary updates and integration requirements of a new design and to ensure final solutions meet organizational needs. Operates with substantial latitude for unreviewed action or decision; mentors team members regarding technical competencies.

Requirements
What You Bring
5+ years of experience with supporting engineering efforts in system design and evaluation, solution engineering, software development, or system administration
3+ years of experience with a complex build system
Experience with leading and mentoring other DBAs on an Oracle based system
Experience with Database Schema as Code tools
Experience with designing large enterprise solutions
Experience with database partitioning and microservices
Experience with code reviews on SQL change sets and work with developers to create and enforce best practices
Hands-on or working knowledge of Process Playbook desired but not required.
Prior experience with federal or VA.gov digital services are highly desirable.
Must be able to pass a US Government Public Trust Security Clearance

Nice to Have
Experience analyzing and tuning queries to improve performance
Experience with Liquibase source control tools
Exposure to security scanning tools, configuring their use and working with teams to fix vulnerabilities 
Experience with ETL and Data Warehousing methods
Experience with installation, maintenance, and administration of PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, or other (non-Oracle) RDBMS variants
