GENERAL DUTIES
Administers various Human Resources functions and programs for one or more employee group(s) exercising discretion and independent judgment.
- Oversees two or more human resources functions for an employee group, such as, but not limited to, staffing, recruitment, employee relations, appointment administration, compensation, human resource information systems (HRIS), training and development, benefits, and/or administration of HR policies, procedures, and programs.
- Ensures human resources functions, programs, and actions are in compliance with university rules and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, employment laws, and college policies and procedures.
- Interprets and provides professional counsel and advice to employees and managers on HR programs and policies, CUNY rules, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable employment laws. Researches and resolves multifaceted human resources issues.
- Recommends new approaches, best practices, policies, and systems to improve office efficiency and services provided.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Labor Studies and Urban and Community Studies that are designed to meet the needs of working adults as well as traditional-age college students who seek to learn more about the challenges confronting poor and working-class populations in the workplace and in the community. It also collaborates with other units of CUNY to offer a range of college-credit programs designed to give workers the academic and technical skills they need for professional advancement. Its faculty includes distinguished scholars in the social sciences as well as expert practitioners in government, labor, and public service.
In collaboration with the Graduate Center’s Office of Human Resources, the SLU Human Resources Generalist reports to the Human Resources Manager. This position is excluded from the union.
SLU is seeking a dynamic Human Resources professional dedicated to delivering exceptional customer
service and fostering positive work experiences for our employees. Reporting to HR Manager, the HR
Generalist will play a crucial role in providing guidance and support in the Office of Human Resources.
The HR Generalist will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
• Oversee the recruitment and hiring process
• Collaborate with the HR Coordinator and University Payroll to ensure accurate and efficient
timekeeping and leave management for all full-time and part-time faculty and staff
• Review and audit timekeeping records to ensure compliance with collective bargaining
agreements, CUNY policies, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
• Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies, procedures, and communications
to support seamless onboarding, offboarding, retirements, and other employment transitions
• Coordinate and support the reappointment process for all full-time and part-time faculty and
staff
• Ensure employment actions are processed accurately and timely in CUNYfirst and PayServ
• Investigate and assist in resolving employee relations matters
• Manage and coordinate the employee performance evaluation process
• Oversee employment verification requests, workers' compensation documentation, and
inquiries from third-party vendors.
• Develop and maintain HR manuals, guides, training materials, audiovisual resources, and content
for the HR website
• Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
PREFFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with CUNYfirst and PayServe systems
Experience with Microsoft Office suite
Knowledge of CUNY contracts and current federal, state and local employment laws and regulations
Success in a fast-paced, continually evolving environment using proven time management skills,
prioritization skills and working with a strong sense of urgency
Detail-oriented with strong analytical and research skills
