Operations Director

Our client, a growing wholesale distributor serving property management companies throughout New York City, Long Island, and Northern New Jersey, specializing in janitorial and cleaning supplies, building materials, and paint products, is looking to hire an Operations Director.

the Operations Director will build new systems, structure, and accountability needed to scale the organization. This individual will serve as the operational leader of the business, overseeing employees across warehouse, logistics, sales support, and administrative functions while implementing policies, processes, and performance standards that drive efficiency and growth.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on operator with strong leadership skills who can bring organization, discipline, and operational excellence to a growing company.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage daily operations across warehouse, logistics, customer service, retail, and administrative teams.
• Establish organizational structure, clear reporting relationships, roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations.
• Develop and implement company policies, procedures, and standard operating processes (SOPs).
• Create accountability systems, performance scorecards, and key performance indicators (KPIs) across departments.
• Recruit, onboard, train, coach, and develop employees while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Conduct regular team meetings, performance reviews, and operational planning sessions.
• Improve workflow efficiency and identify opportunities to streamline operations and reduce bottlenecks.
• Oversee inventory control, warehouse operations, receiving, fulfillment, and delivery processes.
• Ensure high levels of inventory accuracy, order fulfillment, and customer satisfaction.
• Develop reporting systems that provide visibility into operational performance and business metrics.
• Partner with ownership to execute strategic initiatives and growth opportunities.
• Support expansion into new product categories, customer segments, and sales channels, including retail and e-commerce.
• Lead special projects focused on increasing efficiency, scalability, profitability, and organizational effectiveness.
• Serve as a trusted operational partner to ownership and help build the infrastructure necessary for long-term growth.

Requirements

• 5+ years of leadership experience in operations, distribution, logistics, supply chain, manufacturing, wholesale distribution, or a related industry.
• Proven track record of implementing systems, processes, and organizational structure in a growing business.
• Strong people management experience with the ability to lead, develop, and hold teams accountable.
• Experience managing multiple departments and cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrated ability to improve operational efficiency and drive measurable results.
• Strong analytical, organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
• Experience creating and managing KPIs, reporting dashboards, and performance management systems.
• Proficiency with inventory management, ERP, CRM, and business operations software.
• Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution.
• Experience in wholesale distribution, building materials, industrial supply, construction supply, or related industries is strongly preferred.
