The Museum of Jewish Montreal – an innovative place to connect with Montreal’s diverse Jewish life and heritage through new arts and cultural experiences – is seeking a qualified post-secondary graduate to take a leading role in an exciting new permanent heritage exhibition project.
Our Museum is embarking on the research and development phase of a permanent exhibition at our newly renovated building in the Mile End neighbourhood. Intended as a first touchpoint for audiences visiting the Museum, the exhibit will be an introduction to Jewish Montreal’s history and heritage, as well as the Museum itself. The exhibition will incorporate both physical and digital media to explore Montreal’s diverse Jewish history and community, contemporary life, and the cultural and political contributions of the Jewish community on Montreal, Quebecois, and Canadian society. The Heritage Exhibition Coordinator will play an instrumental role within the Museum’s curatorial and research teams in the conceptualization, exhibition design, research, and development stages of the Museum’s first-ever permanent installation.
About the Role
The Heritage Exhibition Coordinator role is intended to foster the skills development of an emerging professional interested in embarking on a career in museums, heritage sites, libraries or archives, or other cultural heritage organizations. Candidates must have academic or professional experience with exhibition project management, AND/OR a relevant educational background in Museum and Curatorial Studies, Public History, Anthropology, Canadian Studies, Library Sciences, Québec Studies, Jewish Studies, film or theatre production, or other heritage and design-related fields.
The ideal candidate will be excited about the prospect of immersing themselves fully in heritage research interpretation and museum exhibition creation and be passionate about working within a creative team to bring an exhibition to a production-ready stage.
During the contract, the Heritage Exhibition Coordinator will:
- Work within the Museum’s vibrant curatorial and research teams to meaningfully expand the Museum’s educational and heritage offerings available to the public, aiding in the preservation of Montreal and Canadian Jewish history, heritage, and culture.
- Acquire a comprehensive understanding of museological strategies for presenting community- / culturally-specific knowledge and historical information in an engaging fashion for a broad, multicultural and multigenerational audience.
- Gain confidence in community engagement, outreach, and relationship development through the identification of relevant partners, stakeholders, and contractors.
- Gain confidence in proposing appropriate exhibitionary approaches in line with the histories, narratives, and perspectives selected by the Artistic Director and Research Manager, e.g. the use of technological interventions, didactic panels, archival documents, and objects.
- Acquire fluency and knowledge of the governmental and communal granting landscape for heritage and exhibition projects.
Candidate Profile
Successful candidates will require, and should clearly highlight the following in their application:
- Academic or professional experience with exhibition project management, AND/OR a relevant educational background in Museum and Curatorial Studies, Public History, Anthropology, Canadian Studies, Library Sciences, Québec Studies, Jewish Studies, film or theatre production, or other heritage and design-related fields
- Demonstrated interest in museums, heritage, or exhibitions, with some practical experience (academic, professional, or volunteer) related to research, exhibition development, cultural production, or heritage interpretation
- Strong research and synthesis skills, including the ability to interpret historical or cultural research and translate complex information into accessible, audience-focused content.
- A history of excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, track timelines, and work toward deliverables independently and collaboratively.
- High level written and verbal communication in both French and English, with the ability to independently present ideas, draft internal documents, and communicate professionally with colleagues, contractors, and community stakeholders.
- Demonstrable experience working within a team while also showing initiative, autonomy, and a willingness to take on responsibility.
- Proficiency in using and learning new digital tools, including Zoom, Google Suite, Microsoft Suite (in particular Word and Excel)
In addition, though not requirements for the position, candidates should communicate any of the following assets they possess in their CV or Cover Letter:

- Familiarity with Jewish history, Montreal history, or Canadian heritage, or experience working with culturally specific or community-based histories.
- Experience with grant research, writing, or reporting, particularly within the arts, culture, or heritage sectors.
- Experience with community engagement, outreach, or event planning, including liaising with partners, stakeholders, or members of the public.
- Working knowledge of digital, design, or content creation tools, such as WordPress, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), SketchUp, AutoCAD, or equivalent software, as well as audio and/or video editing tools.
- Basic understanding of exhibition fabrication, materials, or interactive components, or experience collaborating with designers, fabricators, or technical specialists.
- Comfort or familiarity with pedagogical design for exhibitions, including the ability to shape interpretive content that supports diverse learning styles and enhances visitor engagement.
- A valid driver’s license.
