Job description

Job Description: Chief Operating Officer (COO)
About The Company:
A rapidly growing mid-sized e-commerce company with a team of a few hundred talented professionals. As we continue to scale, we are looking for a visionary, highly capable, and empathetic Chief Operating Officer (COO) to oversee the daily operations and lead the cross-functional teams into the next phase of the business expansion.
Role Overview
As the COO, you will be the operational backbone of the company and the primary go-to leader for all department managers, including Purchasing, Logistics, Warehousing, Marketing, and Accounting.
We are seeking a rare leader: someone who is a firm, decisive driver of results, yet possesses the high emotional intelligence (EQ) required to lead with empathy and minimal friction. The mission is to harmonize the diverse departments, optimize the end-to-end supply chain, and execute the growth strategy at maximum capacity while maintaining a thriving, collaborative company culture.
  • Compensation: $300,000+
  • Location: Central NJ
  • Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Key Responsibilities
1. Cross-Functional Leadership & Culture
  • Act as the direct manager, mentor, and sounding board for the heads of Purchasing, Logistics, Warehousing, Marketing, and Accounting.
  • Foster a high-accountability, low-friction work environment by resolving inter-departmental bottlenecks with diplomacy and clarity.
  • Bridge the gap between strategic vision and daily execution, ensuring all teams are aligned with overarching company KPIs.
2. Operational Excellence & Scale
  • Deeply understand the mechanics of each department to optimize workflows from inventory procurement to final-mile delivery.
  • Oversee warehouse efficiency, fulfillment accuracy, and supply chain logistics to maximize margins and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure rigorous financial oversight in collaboration with the Accounting department to manage budgets, burn rates, and profitability.
3. Innovation & AI Integration
  • Identify opportunities to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation across operations (e.g., predictive inventory purchasing, AI-driven customer service routing, automated logistics tracking, or smart marketing analytics).
  • Equip the team with modern tech stacks to reduce manual labor and allow employees to focus on high-impact, strategic work.
4. Strategic Business Expansion
  • Partner with the CEO to design and execute aggressive business expansion plans (e.g., international scaling, new product lines, or omnichannel growth).
  • Build, scale, and restructure teams dynamically to ensure we always have the "best players in the right positions" to handle increased capacity.
Candidate Profile: Who You Are
The "Firm yet Understanding" Leader: You know how to hold people accountable and set high standards, but you achieve this through respect, active listening, and empowerment—not through fear, micromanagement, or conflict.
  • The E-Commerce Expert: You have a comprehensive understanding of the e-commerce lifecycle. You speak the language of logistics, understand digital marketing attribution, and can read a P&L statement with ease.
  • The Future-Forward Technologist: You aren't just aware of AI tools; you understand how to practically apply them to scale operations and eliminate friction.
  • The Systems Thinker: You look at a company of a few hundred employees and see a beautifully interconnected system that can always be optimized.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience: 8+ years of executive leadership experience (COO, VP of Operations, or equivalent), ideally within a scaling e-commerce or digital consumer goods company with 100 or 200+ employees.
  • Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success managing multi-departmental operations (specifically supply chain, warehouse, and marketing synchronization).
  • Tech Savvy: Proven experience implementing operational tech stacks, ERPs, and AI/automation tools to drive efficiency.
