Job description
Overview: We are seeking dedicated and skilled professionals to provide Community Psychiatric Supports and Treatment Services (CPST) to children and youth in Brooklyn and Queens. As a CPST Provider, you will work directly with children, youth, and their families/caregivers to address behavioral health challenges, foster stability, and promote personal recovery. Your role will involve goal-directed interventions aimed at improving daily living, interpersonal relationships, and community integration, all in alignment with the child’s treatment plan. Responsibilities: Intensive Interventions: Provide individual, family, and relationship-based counseling to support behavioral and emotional management. Implement solution-focused interventions to help the child/youth develop social, interpersonal, and independent living skills. Engage children/youth and their family/caregivers in therapeutic interventions to restore stability and support functional gains. Crisis Avoidance: Assist the child/youth in identifying precursors or triggers that could lead to a crisis. Develop a crisis management plan with the child/youth and their family to prevent or reduce the severity of crisis episodes. Provide guidance and support in seeking additional resources or interventions as needed. Intermediate Term Crisis Management: Work with families after a crisis to stabilize the child/youth in the home and natural environment. Support goal setting focused on addressing issues identified during a crisis episode (e.g., from mobile crisis or emergency room visits). Assist families in adapting to crisis situations and developing strategies for long-term stability. Rehabilitative Psychoeducation: Educate children/youth and families on strategies and treatment options to manage behavioral health symptoms and emotional disturbances. Minimize the impact of symptoms on daily living, academic and employment progress, housing, and interpersonal relationships. Strengths-Based Service Planning: Collaborate with children/youth and families to identify their strengths, needs, resources, and natural supports. Develop goals and objectives using personal strengths to address functional deficits and improve overall well-being. Assist in creating a treatment plan that incorporates the child’s/youth’s natural supports and community resources. Rehabilitative Supports: Provide ongoing rehabilitation and support to reduce the impact of behavioral health symptoms or emotional disturbances on daily functioning. Help children/youth improve life safety skills, such as recognizing when to seek medical assistance, following basic safety practices, and scheduling healthcare appointments. Support children/youth in understanding and managing their medications and the potential side effects. CFTSS-Specific Responsibilities: Assist in implementing interventions outlined in the child/youth’s treatment plan. Work collaboratively with the treatment team and the family to ensure seamless application of interventions and support throughout the course of the service. Documentation and Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all services provided. Communicate regularly with the treatment team to ensure coordination of care and monitor progress toward goals. Provide services in natural settings, including the child/youth’s home, school, workplace, and other community locations. Minimum Qualifications: For Service Components 1-3 (Intensive Interventions, Crisis Avoidance, Intermediate Term Crisis Management): A Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related human services field, plus one year of applicable experience, OR A Bachelor’s degree and three years of applicable experience in children’s mental health, addiction, foster care, child welfare, juvenile justice, or another related human services field (no certification required).
