Job description

UpStart seeks a Senior Director, Finance to serve as the organization's senior finance leader, holding full ownership and accountability for the accuracy, integrity and compliance of financial reporting, including month-end close, annual audit, board and Finance Committee reporting and financial controls. An external accounting firm performs day-to-day bookkeeping, and this role oversees and holds that firm accountable. Responsibilities: • Own the monthly close process end-to-end and prepare monthly and quarterly reporting packages for the Finance Committee and board • Maintain grant-level financial tracking including net asset classification, expense drawdown and release from restriction • Own the annual audit process, manage the auditor relationship and prepare all PBC schedules • Prepare and review the annual Form 990 and maintain the internal controls environment • Lead the transition to a new outsourced accounting provider (Q2-Q4 FY27) • Partner with the Deputy CEO on the annual budget process and maintain a rolling 12-month cash flow forecast • Manage fiscal sponsorship financial reporting as a distinct environment from operating financials Qualifications: • 7+ years of progressively responsible finance or accounting experience, including 3 years in a senior role with direct audit and close ownership • Deep working knowledge of ASC 958 and hands-on annual audit leadership experience • Multi-fund accounting experience and familiarity with fiscal sponsorship structures • Working proficiency in QuickBooks Online; CPA or MBA strongly preferred Salary: $120,000 annually.
